Summer Vibes and Eats at Toronto’s Festivals

Summer is festival season in Toronto, a time to wear sunglasses, dance to live music, and enjoy some delicious snacks from food trucks. The summer in Toronto, in fact, has so many events that you can find something fun to do on any day. To help you decide where to go and what to try, this list includes the most popular festivals for a memorable experience.
NXNE (North by Northeast) Festival
When: June 14th – 19th
What: Held at venues across Toronto, NXNE is all about music and gaming. The festival highlights up-and-coming musicians, as well as panels and gaming events. Check here for schedules, locations, and performer lineups.
Toronto Pride
When: June 24th – 26th
What: Toronto Pride celebrates the right to be “known, heard, understood, accepted, and respected.” The event’s cornerstone is the pride parade, but there are also many concerts and performances to attend. This year’s headliners include The Legendary House of Miyake Mugler; The Ebony Enchantress, Symone; and Queen of Dancehall, Spice. For more info, click here.
TD Toronto Jazz Festival
When: June 24th – July 3
What: Having presented over 35,000 artists over the last 32 years, this is one of Canada’s biggest music festivals. Venues are in restaurants, hotels, churches, and other locations in downtown Toronto. For more information about the festival, click here.
Beaches International Jazz Festival
When: July 2nd – 24th
What: Taking place in parks alongside Toronto’s Beaches community, this month-long music festival showcases big-name jazz stars and local talent in jazz. Check their website for schedules and info about the lineup.
The Toronto Fringe Theatre Festival
When: July 6th – 17th
What: From large productions with set designs and live music to one-person shows, this theatre festival includes performances from both unknown and famous actors, directors, and theatre groups. Most performances are only 60 minutes, so you can see multiple shows in one day. For more information, visit their website.
Toronto Outdoor Art Fair
When: July 8th – 17th
What: An important event for Canadian artists since 1961, this art fair displays the works and wares of over 350 artists at Nathan Phillips Square. You can browse and purchase everything from small crafts to large paintings. Check out their website for more details.
Toronto Food Truck Festival
When: July 29th – August 1st
What: At the 28-acre Woodbine Park, you can taste diverse foods from over 40 different food trucks. Seafood, dumplings, donuts, and more are all on the menu. While you eat, local performers will play live music.
